1. ZONE RE-INSPECTION FRIDAY- At 1400 this coming Friday, 4 March, Department Heads
will re-inspect all zones using the discrepancy list from last inspection as a guide
to see what corrective action has taken place. Be prepared.
2. VITAMIN “D” TIME. Effective today, personnel not involved in boarding/search
parties and armed guards associated therewith, are authorized to wear the following
minimum clothing from after quarters to 1800 daily except that the uniform of the
day must be worn to meals and on watch: -- Swimming trunks or shorts, shower shoes
– But – the complete uniform of the day will be worn when replenishing or entering
port. Word will be passed for this unusual exposure as follows:
“Commence VITAMIN D TIME,” or “Secure from VITAMIN D EXPOSURE”.
3. HOSTILE FIRE PAY: The Captain has authorized payment of $130 perman as Special
Pay for Hostile Fire for the months of January and February. This money is being
credited to your pay records today. Keep it as “nest-egg” to be saved for a rainy
day in Hong Kong. If it is invested in Navy Federal Credit Union, Main Navy Building
Washington 25, D.C. it will currently draw 5 ½% annual interest paid quarterly. It
also pays off double to your designated beneficiary in the event of death.
4. NEXT WEEKS ALL-HANDS AFT: It will feature Chief BLAKE in an ____ on
“BEHAVIOR AND MISBEHAVIOR ASHORE, AND AN OLD SALT’S VIEW.”
5. FLAK-VESTS: All personnel involved in boarding junks will insure that they wear
the bullet-proof jackets provided these jackets are available on the bridge, 01
level, and fantail. Anyone not involved with the boarding evolution will stand well
clear of the area and side where the boarding is taking place. Careless skylarking
could lead to a disaster.
