Top Row Left to Right:

Pal Attendant Saigie Tan has her doubts cleared about the looks of the raft. In actual operation, the raft is fully blown with bottled carbon dioxide.

Center Row:
A gadget that can mean the difference between life and death to a downed airman is this signal flare held up by a Coast Guardsman. He has set off the "night end" of the flare which burns a bright flame. The "day end" (next page) produces billows of orange smoke which is discernible from a distance.

Brains behind the demonstration are (left to right) Captain William H. Snyder, USCG chief of the Sangley Point rescue command; Commander A. M. Davidson, in charge of air element of rescue; and Commander, Gerald T. Applegate skipper of the "Vance".

Demonstration Over, guests of the "Vance" are treated to a showing of technicolor film "Against All Flags" on boat deck. In combat zones, Coast Guard serves with regular Navy, is relegated under treasury department when US is not at war.
