I spent most of my time with CruDesPac on DER's and DE's.....You know\ the story.....If they ever get an *Engineman* in CruDesPac, they never want to let them go! I think it is because they have so few billets open for diesel-drive ships with always a shortage of qualified enginemen......I served the rest of my career on the USS Vance (DER-387)(have you read the book: *The Arnheiter Affair*?) and the USS Charles Berry (DE-1035) and the USS McMorris (DE-1036) They all had those Fairbanks-Moose Engines....Only the DE's had the twelve cylinder engines......... Our next Vance reunion will be in Charleston, SC on 17 to 21 October, 2005. Really a great crew! I have attended the last three reunions at Albany, Galveston, and Memphis................ Like to see you there in Charleston.....We Will be in your neighborhood........... I found your website very interesting.....I can see why you are having a blast! Thats Me, USS-Durant-3-inch-fifty

I've been to Sitka, AK 27 times from 1972 to 1978 when I was a Deputy State Boiler & Pressure Vessel Inspector for the State of Alaska........ my main job was at Alaska Lumber & Pulp Company inspecting their High Pressure Steam Boilers............

Working for Alaska was only part of that boiler & pressure vessel inspector experience. I was also a National Board Commissioned ASME Inspector for the States of Oregon, Washington, Alaska & California. Commission number NB7555. I inspected Sawmills, Pulp mills, lumber plants, hydro-electric utility plants, public schools, steam track locomotives, and all kinds of manufacturing plants.....I traveled by air and company car......I drove 50k miles a year just in Oregon alone.
