Comments= I am in regular contact with two other VANCE shipmates, Tom
Jellison RD3 and Rick Landreville YN3 (and later YNC). We served aboard VANCE 1959 thru 1961. I left VANCE in 1960 in a duty swap with
Ray Squillace. Ray was destined to xfer to U.S.S. RENSHAW DDE 499 when
U.S.S. JOYCE DER (317 ?) was scheduled for decom. He was a newly wed, and I was lusting for a WESTPAC cruise so we fast-tracked a swap chit through. He took my place chipping paint for several more picket
cruises and I went to WESTPAC on RENSHAW.
I have two copies of "The Arnheiter Affair". I must keep one, of
course, but if someone is getting desperate for a copy, perhaps
something can be worked out. Rick Landreville has some old 8mm film of some scenes aboard VANCE, both in port and at sea. He has put them on VHS.
