I joined the Vance in 1945 in Boston, when the ship was undergoing refitting for guns and removal of torpedo tubes. I remained on the Vance until May 46, after taking her out of commission at Green Cove Springs, Fla. At my age, I was only 18 when I was assigned, it would be a surprise to find many left alive. If this is an active location about the Vance, and it's Coast Guard wartime days, I'd appreciate hearing from you.
I have pictures and names of a few shipmates, and they are available to you if wanted. In addition, I have a painting of the Vance, 2' x 3', made from a photo sent me from CG Hdqtrs
