Comments= I flew the N. Pacific barrier with VW-14 and AEW from 59 to 63. On one occasion we had a message from a station ship that "I have turned tail and am running with the weather to prevent structural damage to the ship." Quite a number of years later I talked to a 40N or 45N stationship crewmember here in Indianapolis who gave me this story. On one occasion the ship, which one is not known, took a 63 degree roll in a storm. The ship lay on its side and quivered for some time until it finally righted itself. My friend said that there wasn't a single athiest on the entire ship after it righted itself. This brownshoe takes off his hat to anyone who would plow through such weather. Many's the time from 10,000 feet we'd see nothing but white. |
