Comment: "Vance" is unfamiliar to me, although my Dad might know.
I lived on Midway 1957-59, prior to that Dad was receiving training at Barbers Point,
HI before taking command of AIRBARSRONTWO at Midway.
I'm glad there's some fellas keeping up the memories of a forgotten mission.
Carry on.

Hello Sir.
Found your site by accident. My father, Rodney N. Smith (CDR USN Ret) was Squadron CDR on Midway, 1957-59. It was great for me, being only 6-8 at the time and spending all my time on the beach or in the scaviola. We resided on Officers Row, on the corner I think the quarters number was 117. Many folks don't realize what the mission was about. I recall the Super Connies (Willy Victors) taking off 24/7 and the gooney birds in our front yard and on the runways. It's folks like you that keep the memory alive. You can contact my dad at . He doesn't brag much, so you will have to drag some things out of him. I am proud of him and everyone that worked on the mission. Ralph "Rass" Rassmussen, Lt. Cdr Vance, so many I was so young to remember all the names. Carry on and keep up the good work. Truly, TC Smith |
