Comment: I found your website and most interesting stories as a result of a Google search on the USS BLUE (DD387)on which my now deceased brother, then ENS Charles B. Barry, served at Pearl Harbor. One of the hits was on the "Coincidences" page, which showed a picture of the Blue escorting the burning HMAS Canberra. My brother was on shore duty on 12/7/41 and by the time he got down to Pearl, the Blue had sailed and after a short sojourn helping on the already sunk Arizona he boarded the cruiser Detroit where he served for the next several days (while being listed as missing in action) before being repatriated to the Blue. I'm looking for people who were on the Blue or the Detroit on Dec 7 and the weeks thereafter. Any leads you may have would be greatly appreciated. In the meantime, I have enjoyed your site greatly. I have not included address or phone number because I know that websites are commonly crawled as a source for harvesting such information that is then sold to SPAMers and telemarketers. I know because it has happened to me from years ago when I provided such information for my own Navy squadron website. We are still trying to get i.d. info like that from those sites expunged. But I'd be happy to provide such info off-web via email. Thanks, Rick Barry PS: I was a Naval aviator, so I don't speak black shoe very well. I'd also be interested to learn what the difference is between the DD387 destroyer type (BLUE) and the DE387 destroyer escort type ships/missions. www.mybestdocs.com Cofounder, Open Reader Consortium www.openreader.org |
