I have read a few things that were not accurate and thought i would clarify some of them. We had a recommishioning ceremony in Green Cove Springs, changed Skippers and went to Philly under our own power.
I was stationed on her approx. April 1952 to May 1953. She was recommmishened in in May and sailed under her own power to Philly Until Sept, and then to Baltimore.
An E Mail from Capt James Kelly remembering about when he first came aboard the Vance as an Ensign and thought she might have been towed to Philladelphia Naval Ship Yard. Dated May 31 1999 We were on our own power all the way to philly.

This was not unusual in this part of Florida. |
