Fox Division, Torpedoman (TM), Fire Control Tech. (FT), Sonarman (SO), Gunners mate (GM)
TM -- Perform upkeep and repair of torpedoes and ASW ordnance
other than mines and antisubmarine rockets.
FT -- Operate and perform upkeep, major repair, and overhaul of fire-control systems
and their components, including fire-control radar.
SO -- Provide underwate data for operational use; use and maintain sonar, oceanographic and
mine detection gear; organize antisubmarine attack teams; evaluate and interpret target data;
make repairs and adjustments on gear.
GM -- Operate and perform upkeep and repair of guns, mounts, turrets, missile launchers,
and small arms; handle ammunition and explosives; test and inspect ammunition and missiles
and their components.

Is shown here manning the engine order telegraph on the bridge. Leon's job on the Vance is the taking care of torpedoes and their associated gear. He is a graduate of Cobre High School, in Bayard, New Mexico, basic electricity and electronics school and torpedo repair and upkeep school, both in the Fleet Anti-Submarine School, San Diego, California. Before he entered the service Leon was a letterman in football, basketball, baseball and track. He made All-Southern in football 1958-1959, and also ran against the New Mexico State mile champion at Albuquerque in 1959. Before entering the service Leon had fought 17 Golden Glove matches in Texas, New Mexico, Arizona and California. He fought twice after entering the Navy, both times at San Diego, Californiz. Leon is planning to retire in 20 years and buy and run a ranch.

Is shown here holding corrective maintenance on the sonar receiver. "Car Fish"has been in the Navy 30 months and has attended class "A" Sonar School and class "C" Sonar School at San Diego, California. His present duties aboard the Vance are repair, maintenance and upkeep of our sonar gear. "Cat Fish," the son of Mr and Mrs Fred R. Hudson, hopes to be advanced to SO2 when the results of the upcoming rating exams come back.
